Gary Thurman Photography

Photography has always been a big part of my life since the age of twelve, when I learned to develop my own film and print my own pictures in a friend’s "darkroom".  Now that I'm retired (after 29 years in the fire service as a Professional Firefighter/Paramedic/Engineer), I have more time to explore, learn, and play with my “retirement hobby".

I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, which gives me the opportunity to travel and photograph Oregon's incredible beauty to share with all of you. I'm primarily a "Landscape & Waterfall" photographer but have also played around with Portraits, Astro, and Airial photography as well.

The images contained at this site are just a sample of my photography, so check back from time to time as I'll be updating my portfolio with new photos when I can.

Thank you for taking the time to browse through my website... and feel free to leave me a comment in the "Contact" section.  I hope you enjoy your visit.

(Update):

After nearly twenty years of retirement from the Fire Service, I steadily involved myself more in the photography world almost full-time, and during that time I filled many shoes along the way.  Executive member, Vice President, and President to many camera clubs, as well as participating in photo competitions on a local, county, state, country, and worldly order, and also serving as the Photographic Society of America (International) Waterfall Mentor, where I helped teach “One-on-One” Waterfall Photography to people all over the world.  In my spare time, I also taught photography classes to camera clubs all over the United States, both in person and online through Zoom presentations, and along the way… met many incredible photographers who have become personal friends of mine (Scott Shuey & Michael Anderson).

So… What’s New?

I have officially just retired in May 2026 (version 2.0) from the busy “Photography” world I was immersed in, ending my second notable career as a “Professional Photographer”.  And as my last “hurrah”, eleven of my personal images were contained in a NEW “Oregon Waterfalls” coffee table book written by the Author: Barbara Tricarico (along with 44 other Oregon photographers as well), which can be found on Amazon if you are interested in purchasing a copy for yourself.

I am still involved with photography… but now more as a hobby and not a second job.  When I can, I still get out to capture images (grand-kids, waterfalls, landscapes and portraits) and continue to work towards more Astrophotography when the Oregon night skies are clear, less smokey, and where the misquotes are my blood-sucking buddies.  Over the remaining months ahead, I’m planning on updating this personal website of mine, so do please check in again from time to time.

Thank you!
